IHP- Lab Manager, School of Nursing (STAFF)

Responsible for organization, scheduling, supplies and supervision of the skills lab, simulation lab and physical assessment lab

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. Indicate approximate % of time spent on each responsibility and list in order from greatest % to lowest, totaling 100%.

-Coordinates scheduling of all activities and classes for the clinical learning laboratory spaces

-Assists faculty in the skills, health assessment, and simulation labs as needed, particularly with skills that need supervision and large skills demonstration

-Supervises graduate assistants to prepare and set up the lab (including needed supplies and equipment) for all scheduled activities and break down and clean after each class

-Facilitates the efficient utilization of lab space, including negotiating with faculty when there are competing demands for space/equipment

-Uses technology as available to schedule open lab times for student practice and remediation

-Teaches lab classes and supervise teaching assistants as assigned

-Remediates students who require assistance with lab or simulation lab skills

-Coordinates lab practice with other IHP staff across the spectrum of simulation

-Oversees the physical resources in the lab, including their organization and operation

-Develops and maintains an inventory of lab supplies and resources

-Develops and maintains a manual of laboratory policies and procedures

-Orders supplies for the labs in consultation with faculty

-Oversees the storage and organization of supplies and task trainers

-Periodically checks equipment and ensures that equipment malfunctions are corrected in a timely manner.

-Other duties as assigned


Qualifications



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS (MUST be realistic and related to the essential functions of the job.)

Basic preparation in nursing at a minimum of a baccalaureate level is required. At least 3 years of clinical practice in a health care setting. Previous experience in an academic laboratory setting and a Master's degree in Nursing is preferred.



SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED (MUST be realistic and related to the essential functions of the job.)



a) Administrative Skills- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing demands. Ability to interact with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty, administrators, vendors, information technology staff.



b) Technical Skills- Knowledge of basic psychomotor skills common to the health professions. Computer skills including word processing and data base management. Experience with high fidelity simulation preferred



c) Physical Capabilities – Ability to lift and move equipment up to 20 pounds
