POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Fort Hays State University and the Department of Informatics is accepting applications for an assistant professor of Digital Media Production.  The selected candidate will teach courses in the areas of Digital Media Production, specifically video production and editing. He or she will stay current in the field through active research and/or practice, and will work with department, college, university staff, and administrators to recruit students and to build industry partnerships for the purposes of intern and graduate placement.  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Ph.D. or a masters with at least five years of experience in cinematic video production, broadcast video production, electronic news gathering, digital content dissemination, convergent media, and/or electronic journalism. Relevant industry experience may include: sports broadcasting, news production, corporate or industrial video production, digital cinema, or converged media newsroom management.  Teaching experience required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with Avid and Adobe software and systems as well as experience with converged media (audio, video, digital reporting) is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Most of Fort Hays State University faculty perform their duties on a 60% instruction, 20% scholarship, and 20% service division of labor.

Faculty generally teach four courses per semester.  This division of work duties may be modified through negotiation between the faculty member and the Department Chair when such a change in assignment will mutually benefit the faculty member and Department of Informatics.

Service to the University, College of Business and Entrepreneurship, department, the region, and profession is expected of each faculty member. Including, but not limited to live sports and/or media coverage of special or newsworthy events.

The Department of Informatics at Fort Hays State University is notable for its innovative culture and successes.  The Department was built upon the theme of the movement and use of information.  It has grown strongly over the last decade due to the quality of instruction in serving students and has substantial industry support.  FHSU Informatics currently instructs five undergraduate academic concentrations:  Digital Media Production and Journalism; Web and Mobile Application Development; Computer Networking and Telecommunications; Health Informatics; and Management Information Systems.   It offers multiple graduate degree pathways as well as emphasis options in the MBA program.  All together, the INT Department serves more than 500 undergraduate majors and approximately 30 graduate students in a given semester.  It has plans to significantly increase the graduate program.  The department includes 12 full-time faculty, a lab/studio engineer, an administrative assistant, and several adjunct faculty.  The Informatics Department has quality facilities include multiple video and audio studios, multiple video editing bays, a music recording studio, web development labs, computer networking/telecommunications labs, and graduate research labs.  All classrooms are mediated with built-in computing, Internet access, multi-media tools, and projection screens.  Teaching, research, and creative equipment and software is typically state-of-the art.   Website:  http://www.fhsu.edu/informatics/
