Washington & Jefferson College is a highly residential campus that is home to just under 1,400 students.  W&J boasts a wide variety of on-campus living communities that include all types of living environments from apartment and suite style accommodations to traditional community-based residence halls.  Because of the residential environment, students have the ability to engage in a dynamic community that enables them to gain valuable skills outside of the classroom. 

W&J is seeking a Coordinator of First-Year Communities. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, the Coordinator is a member of the residence life team who share the goal of providing an exemplary residential experience for the W&J students. The Coordinator is responsible for fostering a student-centered community, which features a broad range of programming initiatives, experiences that foster holistic student development with a strong emphasis on connection to the academic life of the college. While the Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing welfare of the communities under their purview, providing staff supervision and supporting all aspects of the residence life program, the main objective of their responsibility will be maintaining and enhancing a robust residential experience for first-year students.

This position is dedicated to assisting first-year students in their transition to Washington & Jefferson College by addressing the social, cognitive, and emotional challenges they encounter.  The Coordinator will work closely with student staff and other members of the college community to ensure the program effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications  

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required.  A Master’s degree is preferred. Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, technical, and written communication skills with the ability to work closely with a diverse group of students.  Proven experience in event planning, social media planning and the development of presentations and publications is helpful.
