The Advisor I will provide specialized advising services for students in the Honors Program and assist with the day-to-day operations of our multi-faceted office. The Advisor I advises talented students in every school and college with multiple options and complex choices.
The Advisor I assists students in making decisions affecting their academic progress by providing administrative counsel and personal guidance relative to interpretation of the University's and School/College's relevant academic policies and pertinent guidelines. Responsibilities include: meeting with students on a one-to-one and group basis to discuss and disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other issues as they arise; developing programs that will support students; maintaining academic records; serving as liaison between students and faculty, staff, and administrators for the expeditious resolution of administrative problems; and providing direct advising services during New Student Orientation. The Advisor also assists with recruiting prospective Honors students through participating in open houses, admitted student receptions, day-long student visits and other selected recruitment events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Master's degree and at least six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills along with the ability to relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
* Demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work with high-achieving and gifted students who have wide-ranging academic needs and interests.
* Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software.
* Demonstrated understanding with automated student information systems, such as Banner.
* Ability to learn new and emerging technologies.
* Basic knowledge of data management and statistics.
* Demonstrated experience with public speaking in both large and small groups.
* Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours when necessary.

* Student centered programming experience.
* Knowledge of student development theory.
