Position Description: The Department of Theatre at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the search for a 3-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice and Speech, with a beginning date of August 16, 2018.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience teaching voice and speech for theatre at the university level. MFA or terminal degree required. The position requires teaching and mentorship of BFA and MFA students in an intensive professional setting, as well as coaching departmental productions, and one-on-one coaching as needed. The successful candidate will join a highly dynamic, collaborative acting faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in a professional training, conservatory style setting, housed in a Tier-One Research Institution. Minimum Qualifications: Required: Terminal degree, Experience teaching voice and speech at the University level, expertise in speech, IPA, accents/dialects, voice over, advanced text and styles, and one or more recognized vocal production approaches. Preferred: Effective organizational and communication skills. An ability to collaborate effectively in a team, and a clear understanding of the voice and speech needs in the performing arts, including: stage, film, TV, musical theatre, voice over/audiobook, web series, etc. Preferred: AEA membership. Desirable: Experience with directing and/or new methods of playmaking.
Duties: Teach voice and speech (and related courses as necessary) in the BFA and MFA acting areas, and voice and dialect coaching for Illinois Theatre productions. Engage in curriculum development, recruitment, artistic mentoring, and academic advising. Responsibilities may also include committee and service work. Ongoing external research/professional creative activity is expected and encouraged.
Rank and Salary: Visiting Assistant Professor, (full-time, 9-month position), with expected renewal for 3 years, pending satisfactory performance. Salary commensurate with experience.

Department: The Department of Theatre includes 18 faculty members, 12 Krannert Center Design and Technical faculty members, 4 academic staff, 6 campus affiliated faculty members, 115 undergraduates and more than 60
graduate students. The department offers BFA and MFA programs in Acting, Design, Technology, and Stage Management. There are also BFA, MA and PhD programs in Theatre Studies. The department and its production
programs are housed in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, a state of the art, multi-venue facility that operates collaboratively within an artistic structure that serves areas of theatre, dance, music, opera, and professional touring performances. Theatre faculty members work closely with Krannert Center staff and the faculties of the Department of Dance and the School of
Music's Lyric Theatre Program.
