Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree strongly encouraged, preferably in Health Care Administration (MHA), Public/Nonprofit Administration (MPA), Business (MBA, Accountancy, HR), or Law (JD).
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least six years of progressively responsible experience managing complex multidisciplinary clinical programs in an academic healthcare setting, as well as an in-depth understanding of academic medicine's multiple missions of education, research, clinical and community service is required. Direct experience in an academic surgical department is preferred. This position also requires strong leadership, management, physician relations, and oral/written communication, team building, systems expertise, creativity, flexibility, collaboration, organization assessment, decision-making and interpersonal and staff development skills, as well as the ability to operate in high-pressure situations. Candidates must also demonstrate a high degree of initiative, and understanding of operational efficiencies and cost containment and strategic planning.

The Associate Administrator, Clinical Administration will support the Department of Surgery's clinical, education, research, and outreach missions through administrative leadership of clinical operations, faculty workforce planning/recruitment and retention, clinical program development, strategic planning, clinical quality, clinical informatics, and marketing and communications under the direction of the Administrator and the Chair of the Department of Surgery. The Associate Administrator will act in the stead of the Administrator and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) when neither are available. This position will independently identify problems and develop solutions and direct others in implementation of the solutions. The Associate Administrator will oversee Business Development (4 FTE), Communications (2 FTE), and Information Systems (11 FTE), and also directs and manages all clinical marketing efforts in collaboration with UW Health (1.0FTE matrixed UWH staff member). The Associate Administrator reports directly to the Administrator and serves as a member of the department's administrative leadership team.
