Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under limited supervision, reporting to the Director of Prospect Analytics Services, the Senior Prospect Analyst supports the success of major gift development efforts at the University of South Carolina by performing advanced analysis pertaining to potential and current annual, major and planned gift donors whose philanthropic resources and interests align with University priorities. Requires the ability to effectively present large volumes of information, assembled from the constituent relationship management (CRM) database and other auxiliary sources. The position will utilize internal, public and subscription-based resources to compile biographic, business, philanthropic, and financial data into interactive charts, detailed analyses, and concise reports. The Senior Prospect Analyst manages advanced requests focused on prospect portfolios, metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs) and other similar work and assists in the execution of comprehensive prospect identification and prospect management projects.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master's degree and 3 years related program experience, or bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience.

May be required to travel overnight to conferences for professional development, work late evenings and weekends. Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years related program experience, or bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience in an area such as Advancement Services, Prospect Analysis, Business Analysis, Alumni Development, or Higher Education Fundraising Operation. Preferred experience with relational databases, reporting tools. Previous experience with a fundraising constituent relationship management system. Knowledge of fundraising software.


Advanced analytical skills and the ability to perform advanced analysis to interpret alumni and donor data to provide fundraising insights. Strong knowledge and experience in data analysis that identifies and predicts trends and insights based on analysis of collected data. Ability to work with professional and executive-level staff. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and manage diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines. The ability to interpret, process and analyze data in order to produce in-depth and meaningful insights. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a variety of data types from databases. The ability to remain flexible with constantly changing and often opposing demands, while still meeting deadlines is essential. The ideal candidate will be service-oriented, model a positive attitude, be collaborative, creative, and resourceful. Strong technical and analytics skills with a keen attention to detail is a must. The ability to exercise discretion and maintain constituent confidentiality while conducting prospect analysis is required. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be highly organized, accurate, and analytical. Must be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information. Adheres to industry guidelines, methodologies and code of ethics statements as defined by the Association for Professional Researchers in Advancement (APRA), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
