Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Facilities Management Mechanical Maintenance section's mission is to provide excellent customer service while maintaining a safe, comfortable environment where students, faculty and staff can live, learn and work.
Description of Work Continued:
The position works within the Department of Facilities Management's HVAC/Plumbing section as a journey level maintenance technician. The HVAC/Plumbing section maintains the plumbing infrastructure, systems and equipment for the University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Knowledge - Technical
Ability to routinely and consistently to perform widely variable, functionally diverse facility maintenance assignments regarding moderately complex mechanical/plumbing systems and infrastructure. Ability to guide, direct and coach others regarding approach to technical issues. Ability to apply and interpret technical knowledge to a variety of moderately complex situations. Ability to research, analyze and display understanding of one or more different trades areas.
Ensures non-routine, non-repetitious work meets industry service standards according to service manuals; checks and rechecks work prior to and after completion; seeks approval of supervisor or higher level technician upon completion of assignment; uses appropriate record keeping methods. Ability to troubleshoot systems and integrate the highest quality control standards.
Safety and Health Compliance
Identifies and resolves potential shop safety problems and unsafe work practices; shows co-workers safe ways to perform job tasks or use equipment; incorporates accident prevention and corrective measures in all activities; regularly assesses shop safety conditions.
Anticipates, identifies and understands customer's service needs; effectively balances multiple priorities; checks with customers to ensure that repair or solution meets needs; develops positive relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to identify critical and less critical activities and set objectives and clearly prioritize activities. Ability to appropriately allocate resources to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Additional 2 years related experience in facilities maintenance and mechanical systems repair.
Advanced training in HVAC and/or plumbing
Licensed in plumbing
Proficiency in operating equipment such as fork lift, pipe threading equipment, etc.
Commercial Driver's License
