Program Coordinator, Institute for Writing & Thinking (IWT)

Job description

The Bard College Institute for Writing & Thinking (IWT) is seeking a Program Coordinator to join our team. IWT is a professional development institute that brings together secondary and college teachers of all disciplines to explore teaching methodologies, learn from each other, and re-think how writing fosters and shapes thinking. The Institute aims to create a place where teachers and faculty renew themselves intellectually, imagine new teaching ideas, and envision classrooms in which writing becomes a catalyst for learning in all subjects.

The Program Coordinator works with IWT’s Director and Associate Director to develop and provide professional development workshops for schools and colleges nationally and internationally. Primary responsibilities include: planning and coordinating on-site workshops for teachers at schools and colleges (as well as within the Bard Network); providing administrative and budgetary support to the Director and Business Coordinator; identifying and recruiting IWT Faculty Associates; facilitating IWT workshops nationally and internationally; and working with the Director and Associate Director on the planning and implementation of all of IWT’s regular programming at Bard College in Annandale. This is a twelve month position.

Qualifications: The position requires an energetic, articulate, and engaging person with excellent writing skills who enjoys being around secondary and college teachers from private and public schools around the country, and who will enjoy representing the Institute and its work to the educational community outside of Bard.  The ideal candidate will come with experience in writing-to-learn and writing-based teaching pedagogies, at least four years experience in a program/organizational administrative role, and substantial knowledge of and experience within U.S. public schools, as well as familiarity with the international landscape of policy and standards. Terminal degree required, Ph.D. preferred.
