The Daniels College of Business is one of the largest colleges within the University, with 1,600 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. We offer a variety of majors and minors, including two bachelor degrees, five MBA degree programs and seven specialized master's degrees.
This part-time (20 hours per week) position provides direct comprehensive career services and career counseling to the Daniels Undergraduate Business students. This position will conduct outreach to faculty and student groups, market, plan, and present at career events and programs, and participate in assessment process. Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through involvement and participation in university/division-wide projects and initiatives. Must be able to work one evening a week and additional evenings as necessary. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Taylor Family Undergraduate Career Center within the Daniels College of Business.
Provide direct comprehensive career services and career counseling to Daniels Undergraduate Business students through one-on-one appointments, and through programming. Integrate career services initiatives across Daniels and DU to leverage resources, services, and programming. Create and ensure optimal student experiences as it relates to coordination of specific academic and co-curricular activities during all phases of matriculation. Actively participate in resume and cover letter reviews quarterly for the Daniels secondary admission process. Oversee programming logistics/planning related to the Daniels Professional Development Program, and programs related to alumni involvement (such as job shadow and mentor programs). Conduct outreach to faculty and student groups and work with student representatives for marketing and promotion of services and events and overseeing daily scheduling of student workers for activities. Assist in collecting internship and full-time employment information and salary information. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of local, national and international job market.
- Event planning and marketing.
- Familiar with industry references and jargon.
- Ability to develop and present career-related workshops to traditional-aged undergraduate business students.
- Strong grammar and writing skills.
- Strong service orientation, excellent counseling and interpersonal skills, and sensitivity to needs of diverse populations.
- Computer literacy for internet searches and word processing.
- Ability to function as part of an entrepreneurial team.
- Must be able to read and critique resumes/cover letters, conduct mock interviews, and guide students through cover letter/resume etiquette.
- Bachelor's degree
- 1-2 years career counseling experience
- Master's degree
- 1-2 years experience working with undergraduate students in a higher education setting
- Myers Briggs Type Indicator and/or Strong Interest Inventory certification
20 hours per week: Monday - Friday and one evening a week plus additional events as needed
