Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
Advises and guides employees and managers in employee relations issues through analyzing individual situations and determines appropriate interventions; one-on-one counseling, coaching or development of individualized employee development tools, and providing follow-up to ensure performance accountability; interventions aimed at improving the effectiveness of work teams, and supervisory development. Position serves as a fact-finder and provides consultation in harassment cases as well as managing the mediation process for faculty and staff and facilitating the staff grievance process. Assists with Fitness for Duty determinations, threat assessments associated with potential workplace violence, fact finding for complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and providing guidance and consultation to others engaged in the fact finding role.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating and promoting HR best practices in the context of organizational goals and objectives; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Employee will have an understanding of human behavior and demonstrated skills in employee relations discipline including coaching, training, facilitation, mentoring, good judgment, presenting, communicating verbally and in writing to different audiences, listening, conflict resolution and mediation, responsiveness/customer service, critical thinking, relationship building, decision making, time management and persuasion
Knowledge of university, state, federal laws pertaining to employment, discrimination, civil rights, education, as well university policies and practices
Employee will have the ability to exercise sound judgment in assessing situations, develop appropriate interventions, and evaluate the outcome of professional practice
Position will have the ability to adapt and communicate information to a wide range of employees
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Master’s degree preferred
Experience in counseling, conflict resolution, addressing performance issues and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Certification or prior experience in performance management, diversity, supervisory development, service excellence preferred
Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Not required, though professional certifications or affiliation preferred
Recruitment Range: $50,000 - $60,000
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 72
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
