Position Summary:

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics LASP develops, designs, and builds instruments and spacecraft for space-based observations of the Sun, Earth, and planets. LASP has built instruments and participated in missions to every planet in the solar system. LASP manages the financial aspects for over active 170 grants and contracts, cradle to grave.

We are seeking a dynamic Grant Business Analyst to further LASP's science mission by providing fiscal coordination, analytical support, and management of projects funded by federal and commercial grants, as well as to assist LASP researchers working on grant funded projects.

This is an advanced level of professional financial analyst work. Duties include research, selection, and compilation of financial data from multiple sources, such as production, accounting, vendors and subsequent analysis of that data to produce business information used to support decisions. Work assignments are complex and have significant financial impact on the lab.

Job Duties:

• Functions as the Business Analyst for multi-year grants from proposal/pre-award through project execution and project close-out. This includes working closely with Principal Investigators and other project stakeholders to prepare proposal budgets, manage proposal submissions, provide financial data analysis, and advise on closeout process.

• Initiates and manages sub-contract and fabricated equipment accounts originating from awarded grants.

• Reviews research grants to ensure project compliance with award terms and conditions, including reporting requirements, and identify issues as necessary.

• Exercises considerable discretion and judgment in making recommendations related to the allocation of grant funds and expenditures.

• Applies knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, budgeting principles, budgeting practices, analytical techniques, and/or legal and regulatory compliance.

• Performs work of varied and considerable difficulty requiring advanced data collection, analysis, and forecasting.

• Works closely with Grant Manager and other Grant Business Analysts to problem solve, update processes and procedures, and optimize effectiveness and efficiency.

• Provides leadership and direction to other professional and clerical staff with respect to fiscal approach and project management.

• Interacts frequently with principal investigators, functional managers, and directors requiring a high level of communication skills to analyze and resolve issues.

• Develops, interprets, and/or evaluates compliance with policies and procedures.

• Other duties as assigned to facilitate continuity within grant research programs at LASP.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or equivalent

• Experience working with Federal and Foundation grants and regulations.

• Understands the federal, state, and university guiding principles.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
