The College of Medicine at Florida State University has embarked on a strategic effort to increase basic and translational research related to human health. In an effort to extend our impact in translational and discovery research, we are seeking senior basic- or clinician-scientist applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level with a proven track record of excellence in creative approaches to Biomedical Research, extramural funding, and leading interdisciplinary groups. The mission of the College of Medicine is to prepare compassionate physicians who discover and advance knowledge and deliver the highest quality patient-centered medicine to communities with the greatest need. The Research and Discovery mission of the College of Medicine is facilitated by more than 150,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art laboratory space and core labs in proteomics, genomics, advanced confocal, super-resolution and multiphoton microscopy, flow cytometry, animal care, and cell culture. Research in the Department of Biomedical Sciences covers a broad spectrum of disciplines, offering a rich, diverse, and collegial environment. The translation science core laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and deep sequencing equipment including the NovaSeq latest-generation DNA sequencer (http://med.fsu.edu/?page=translationalLab.home). A new 3T MRI system (Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma) is housed in a new MR facility at the College of Medicine. Current research in the department is broadly focused on understanding the molecular bases of human diseases and regenerative medicine. Our faculty’s research expertise includes Neuroscience, Genetics and genomics, Molecular structure and function, Cardiovascular and infectious diseases, Cell biology and development and (6) Stem cell and cancer biology. The faculty are exploring the complex biological mechanisms at multiple levels of the gene to the systems level that contribute to the potential of human health, the influence of the environment and how defects in these biological processes cause human health disorders. The Department hosts a Graduate program (http://med.fsu.edu/?page=phdAdmissions.home), and many faculty participate in the FSU Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience (http://neuro.fsu.edu/) and the Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine (http://genomics.fsu.edu/).
