Position Summary

The staff writer is a communication professional who serves as a writer and copy editor in University Communications, often with quick-turnaround times. The position's broad skill set requirements involve:

Research, writing, editing and fact-checking stories with the primary focus of informing internal and external audiences and constituencies about the University's research, programs, arts and creative programs, services, events, faculty, staff and students. He/she is expected to be knowledgeable about research, programs, activities, faculty and students in assigned professional schools, departments, programs and other areas. Research, writing, editing and fact-checking will be for Campus Weekly, UNCG Now, UNCG Research magazine, UNCG Alumni Magazine and other print and web venues, including videos. The staff writer will also assist in securing photographs for publication with the stories.

Minimum Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in writing for magazines.
Experience in writing for the web and using WordPress or similar platforms.
Experience with science-related communications or publications.
Experience with video and/or photography.
Experience in writing in a branding, public relations or advertising environment.
Knowledge of AP Style and experience using style guides.

Alternate Option
