A cellular and molecular biology laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II. Our lab investigates the molecular mechanisms controlling the assembly of the primary cilium, as well as the role of this essential organelle in mediating key developmental signaling pathways and in human health. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and have excellent organizational skills. Prior research experience is required. Experience with cell culture and mouse husbandry is a plus, but is not required. We will consider candidates who are seeking a temporary position (minimum 2 years strongly preferred) before applying to graduate or medical school, as well as those looking for long-term technician positions. Responsibilities include: • Performing routine cell culture• Assisting with placing orders and keeping the lab organized• Conducting biochemical, cellular and molecular biology assays, including Western blotting,immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence and microscopy• Maintaining transgenic mouse colony (breeding, genotyping,record-keeping)• Helping to monitor and maintain key equipment such as microscopes• Opportunity to work on an exciting research project related to mammalian brain development • Prior research experience in some area of biological sciences• Willingness to work with mice• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred skills: • Mouse husbandry• Cell culture• Western blotting and immunoprecipitation• Immunofluorescence and microscopy.
