California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking an experienced, dynamic and visionary leader to join the campus community as its vice president for university relations and development. 

The vice president for university relations and development (VPURD) reports directly to the president and provides vision, leadership and oversight of a large and diverse communications, marketing, public affairs, alumni relations and development unit that supports the academic mission of the university by creating awareness, building enduring relationships and generating philanthropic support. The VPURD serves as the chief development officer for the campus and advises the president and other senior-level leaders on all university relations and development matters. The VPURD is a key member of the president’s senior leadership team and as such participates in strategic planning and works collaboratively with leadership across the institution – in academic affairs, student affairs, finance and administration, among others – to ensure alignment with and creative approaches to support key academic and university priorities, initiatives and opportunities. The VPURD also serves as CEO of the 49er Foundation and works in close coordination the Foundation Board of Directors to advocate for the people and programs at the university, manage private support and steward donors.

CSULB seeks a collaborative, entrepreneurial and goal-oriented advancement leader with experience to lead CSULB through the planning and execution of its next comprehensive campaign and ensure organizational strength and alignment to achieve key campaign and programmatic objectives. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in leading a large and productive team of university relations and development professionals and a strong track record of fundraising and organizational success in the context of a campus-wide campaign, including significant experience raising funds for academic programming and intercollegiate athletics. He or she will have experience partnering with executive and academic leadership to create sophisticated gift strategies and close principal gifts. Experience within higher education is preferred. The incoming VPURD should be a strong communicator with superb management skills and possess a collaborative and open leadership style and values consistent with the California State University System, its mission and its focus on student success. A graduate degree is preferred with a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in progressively responsible senior-level university relations and development positions.
