Position Summary

The program director is responsible for working with the Academic Vice President for the college to help define the college’s vision and strategy for a set of programs in alignment to and in support of WGU goals. The individual provides information, direction, and analysis on continuous improvement to inspire innovative programs that achieve program outcomes for students and meet workforce needs. The program director, on occasion, will act as a public voice and represent WGU's programs to both internal and external audiences. The individual promotes partnerships and brand awareness for both WGU and the college and is a key participant in external relations. The individual is an expert on industry standards and processes to ensure proper accreditation and licensure requirements are implemented. The program director effectively influences change in a highly matrixed organization while working with leadership and functional managers to advise on business strategy and initiatives. The individual partners closely with cross-functional teams inside the university to work toward successful outcomes for college programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advises on and executes the program-level vision, strategy, key performance indicators, and goals as determined by the Academic Vice President
  • Conducts ongoing holistic evaluation of program performance, as related to student outcomes, curriculum performance, budget, accreditation requirements, market demand, and external partnerships opportunities
  • Provides clear and effective leadership to the college and cross-functional partners to achieve strategic goals
  • Serves as a member of the college leadership team and provides collaborative support and cooperation to other colleges and departments of the university
  • Leverages employer partnerships and industry data to identify current and future workforce needs
  • Facilitates the College Council's input in determining potential new degrees and ensuring existing degrees maintain the highest quality and relevancy and meet industry standards
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure accreditation requirements, program reviews, and other processes are met and performed for the continuous improvement of the college’s activities
  • Works closely with the compliance and accreditation department to ensure compliance with national and state accreditation and licensure requirements across all 50 states
  • Partners with internal and cross-functional teams to achieve key performance indicators at the college and program levels for student outcomes and enrollment growth
  • Maintains partnerships at the national, state, and local levels, including with key professional and industry organizations, for example: community colleges and universities
  • Represents the college on education and matters at the university, state, and national levels
  • Promotes the college and WGU through external engagement and thought leadership, including speeches, articles, interviews, and events
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required & assigned

  • Graduate degree in a health profession (PhD preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership of health sciences education in an accredited college or university
  • Industry experience required
  • 5+ years of experience working across multiple levels and departments of a complex organization
  • Understanding of accreditation and licensure standards
