Associate Vice President for Student Success
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Associate Vice President for Student Success is responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership and management to services, initiatives, and programs focused on improving student retention and persistence through to timely degree completion. The incumbent is responsible for the research, development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of student success initiatives in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The AVP works with a team of directors to intentionally provide a broad base of student support programs, services and other opportunities to maximize students' personal development, academic and career success. The AVP provides leadership and oversight to the following: Educational Opportunity Program, Summer Bridge, College Assistance Migrant Program, Learning Center (Tutoring Program, Supplemental Instruction and SupportNet), Dream Success Center, Renaissance Scholars Program, Career Development Center, Student Support Services Program/Veterans, Professional Examination Services, University Advising Center, Dog Days: New Student Orientation, and Office of Black Student Success.Additionally, the incumbent performs a wide range of executive and high level academic and operational duties of broad scope and complexity requiring outstanding professional ability, exceptional organizational skills, originality, mature judgment and a thorough knowledge of the academic and organizational structure of the campus. Provide strategic vision, direction and management to Student Success programs and services to include

Develop and implement services, programs, activities, build a sense of belonging and facilitate a successful transition to and engagement in the college experience in order to increase student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
Provide leadership efforts to develop policies and practices that effectively enhance the student experience and promote student involvement and engagement.
Serve the Vice President for Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management cabinet team and represent the division on university-wide committees.
Play a critical role in student advocacy, leadership, staff development, strategic planning, assessment and in advancing strategic plan, goals, and objectives in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Plan, prepare and effectively manage budget resources for reporting programs and departments.
Manage development and implementation of a comprehensive student success assessment plan to improve student persistence and graduation rate for reporting programs and services.
Develop, support and implement innovative programs and strategies to achieve Graduation Initiative 2025 goals.
Directly supervise and evaluate assigned directors, coordinators, and staff.
Compile reports that present an update on student success initiatives, relevant findings from research, and analysis of data to make continuous improvement.
Provide oversight of the campus academic readmissions process and intervention strategies for students in academic difficulty.
Ensure efficient and effective communication of information related to student success throughout the university.
Serve as a Student Affairs and Enrollment Management partner to Academic Affairs and other key stakeholders in the research, development, and implementation of best practice strategies to improve student achievement retention, and student success.
Research best practices in student retention and graduation rates to make recommendations for improving practices, policies, procedures in support of student success.
Compile reports detailing relevant and useful findings from research, and analysis of data to be used for continuous improvement of student success initiatives, services, programs.
Provide strong, dynamic academic and administrative leadership that fosters a collegial work environment across the campus and with community.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Serve on the Executive Student Success Team, Academic Advising Council, Enrollment Services Committee and other relevant committees.
Serve as a resource on issues related to student success.
Experience with web-based management systems such as PeopleSoft, DPR and GradesFirst.
Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication.
Dedication in the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Experience with research and preparing analytical and technical reports.
Experience with program development, assessment, budgeting, fiscal management, and human resource management.
Possess leadership qualities including effective motivation, supervision, delegation, planning and assessment skills.
Sound knowledge of student development theory and sensitivity to issues and needs of students from low-income, diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge of national trends and best practices in student success.
Strong leadership and supervision skills with a proven ability to manage and lead a complex Student Affairs unit.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, interpret, evaluate and apply university and CSU rules, regulations and policies.
Provide leadership in the organization, implementation, and evaluation of programs and activities that support the personal and academic development of college students.
Analyze problem situations, identify feasible solutions and present recommendations in a concise, logical and systematic manner.
Exercise good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Effectively train, mentor and communicate with staff, faculty, students and others.
Make practical, logical, objective decisions and put effective changes into practice.

Support the mission of the CSU, University, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Have a history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.
Master's degree in an appropriate field.
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration, student service programs and/or teaching.
Experience with leading a team of managers and student services professionals.
Experience in a higher education setting with special student support programs including program development, evaluation, fiscal management, and supervision.
