Area 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator/Olympic Sports Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred with academic training in early childhood education, child development, youth development, guidance and counseling, volunteer management, or other related field. At least three years of coaching at the collegiate level required.

Purpose of Job

The Area 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator/Olympic Sports Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program for the 4-H Youth Development area of ASU-EP in a designated geographic region of the state. Individual is responsible for assisting the coach with coaching student athletes and assisting in the management and administration of the intercollegiate sports program within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Alcorn State University, SWAC and the NCAA.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Area 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator will be responsible for building coalitions and partnerships with youth-related groups, agencies and organizations. In addition, the 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator will:

•Expand 4-H participation beyond the current club programs to include: school and community based and summer youth events and activities, career and workforce preparation and development and youth involvement in community projects.
•Provide the leadership for the implementation of an integrated youth development program in counties of a region. Develop public-private partnerships for the implement of educational programs, events and activities with businesses and other youth serving organizations and agencies.
•Demonstrate abilities to conduct informal and formal need assessment to identify issues and determine program direction.
•Solicit private and public support for educational programs, activities, events from individuals, organizations, and agencies to promote the Alcorn State University Extension Program in the 4-H Youth Development Program area.
•Individual will assist the coach in all aspects of the program.

Essential Job Functions

•The position serves as a team member with county, region and reinstate. ASU-EP’s Extension professionals will determine programming priorities and delivery methods for effective educational program for families and individuals.
•Possess a high level of competency in sports skill instruction and coaching, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
• Assist with conducting practice sessions focusing on individual and team skill development.

•Retain an inherent ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, staff and alumni.
•Assist with the planning, organizing, managing and supervising the daily administration, operation of the tennis program.
•Assist with running and supervising the instruction of the sports teams in accordance with NCAA, SWAC regulations and requirement of the University Policies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

•Must demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively using oral, written and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate successful leadership and teamwork building experience. Ability to work with colleagues from other disciplines and help non-extension faculty engage with the 4-H programs.
