Job description

Coe College, a selective, private, nationally recognized residential liberal arts college located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Controller.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President/CFO (EVP/CFO), this position will lead all accounting functions and the day-to-day operations of the Business Office.  The successful candidate will also partner with the EVP/CFO in developing annual and long term strategic budgeting and financial planning.  Responsibilities include the direction, development, and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls; the integrity of monthly and annual accounting information and reporting, including restricted funds and endowment investments; oversight of State and Federal funding programs and reporting; compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting and audit regulations; reporting and management of external audits; management of accounting operations, billing, accounts payables, fixed assets and all general ledger account reconciliations; collaborate with the EVP/CFO in annual operating budget development; and provide oversight and management of the Business Office staff.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of six years’ experience accounting or auditing experience with $50 million annual revenue preferably in a not-for-profit environment.  Higher education experience preferred.
  • Computer experience and expertise, including strong Excel and integrated database system skills.
  • Successful completion of criminal and credit background checks in accordance with Coe College policy.
