Job Summary/Basic Function:
Duties: Serve as assistant to chair and receptionist for Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages. Maintain and process faculty travel requests. Edit, proof, and write departmental documents. Prepare and process routine program, office, college, university documents. Maintain departmental equipment reservations. Process semester textbook requisitions for entire department. Process internal and external requisitions. Provide statistics as needed for department and university reports. Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail. Maintain and update syllabi and syllabi file. Assist with assessment. Update student files. Coordinate advising. Maintain, order, and inventory departmental supplies and equipment. Organize and maintain office, program and academic files. Use university mainframe computer systems (Banner) and other software. Maintain working knowledge of computers and current software. Make copies, send Faxes, type non-computerized forms. Attend required training sessions. Maintain web pages and other electronic media. Perform all other relevant duties as required.
Qualifications: Minimum of a high school diploma supplemented by experience or by courses business skills, and computers and computer software required. Associate degree or higher preferred. Experience working in higher education preferred. Must have working knowledge of Windows, Office Professional (WORD, EXCEL, etc.) Must have very strong writing, proofing, and editing skills. Strong personal interaction and telephone skills in dealing with administration, faculty, staff, and general public. Must understand and practice confidentiality of university information. Must be able to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors in large department. Must have excellent work habits and follow university and department policies. Must have basic math skills. Web design and maintenance experience desirable. Must have skill in business machines such as scanner/copier/etc. Knowledge of Lamar University and Departmental policies and curriculum preferred. References will be checked. Official transcripts and relevant training certifications are required at time of employment.
