POSITION: A full-time university staff position is available in Facilities-Grounds beginning May 1, 2018 with the official title of Gardener. This is an expected-to-continue assignment, which requires a six-month probationary period. The expected hourly hiring salary will be $13.00 - $15.50/hour commensurate on experience.


  • A thorough knowledge of horticultural, arboricultural, and landscape construction practice.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • A valid Wisconsin Driver's License and a good driving record, which meets Wisconsin’s minimum driving standards necessary to operate University vehicles, is required.

  • Preferred degree and/or experience in Horticulture, Plant Science.
  • Ability to guide the work of others, to work with the public.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment in populated areas
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES: This position is responsible for maintenance of ornamental plantings and natural areas including performing maintenance and construction duties, use of grounds equipment and other maintenance and development projects. Work is performed under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor and in coordination with the Landscape Designer.
