Advertised Job Summary: Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students. The Academic Advisor and Events Coordinator will provide academic advising for about 160 students each semester, which will include assessing students' curricular needs and opportunities, and placing them in appropriate honors classes. As an advisor, this staff member will also guide students toward the richest and most rewarding collegiate experiences, which may include research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships, culminating in graduation and post-graduation success. Advisors use available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising, and they function as liaisons with University first-year advisors and with advisors in other academic units. They should employ a working knowledge of college curricula, university policy, and campus resources. This staff member will also serve as the Events Coordinator, creating, planning, and executing a wide range of community-building and intellectually-enriching activities for students. The person in this position will be expected to perform the following duties: - Responsible for academic advising, which involves assessing students' curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. - Guides students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success. Use available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising. - Coordinate events both social and/or intellectually enriching for Honors students. - Create new community-building events and activities for Honors students. - Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Student Services, in support of other activities of the Honors College.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions): Masters degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience.
