Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Academic Advisor and Internship Coordinator works with students in two primary ways. The incumbent will be responsible for academic advising up to 160 students each semester, which involves assessing students' curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. Honors College Academic Advisors function as liaisons with first-year advisors and with advisors in academic units; and possess a working knowledge of college curricula, university policy, and campus resources. Using this knowledge, Academic Advisors guide students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success, using available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising. As Internship Coordinator, the incumbent will cultivate and monitor new and existing opportunities for students and the Honors College Internship Program, recruit and place students in the appropriate field of interest and serve as the instructor for credit-bearing internships.

The person in this position will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Responsible for academic advising, which involves assessing students' curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes.
- Guides students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success. Use available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising.
- Coordinate the promotion, implementation and, evaluation of year round honors internships.
- Responsible for the SC Semester program. Involves recruiting and placing students in internships with SC government agencies, including the legislative and executive branches, and collaboration with the internship providers to assure a successful experience.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Internship Programs, in support of other activities of the Honors College.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Masters degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Applicants must have the ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately are critical. Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs is preferred.
