Job Duties: The position of Laboratory Supervisor is designed to manage all instructional and research laboratories in the College of Engineering and Technology. The Laboratory Supervisor is part of a team that is responsible for preparing and equipping all laboratories in the College. This includes the breakdown of laboratory equipment, physically moving the laboratory equipment to an alternate area, reassembling the laboratory equipment, and other activities required to ensure the laboratories are in proper working order. This position also provides support for faculty and students in the delivery of both laboratory instruction and laboratory-related research associated with the mission of the College of Engineering and Technology. The Laboratory Supervisor reports to the Director of Laboratory Operations. This position's primary responsibility will be in support of the Construction Management Labs to include: Soil, Materials, Infrastructure, Building codes and Surveying Labs. Tasks will include preparing soil and aggregate samples, assisting in concrete sample preparation, removing samples from molds and transporting to lab for testing. Experience with the following equipment is desirable: Forney Compression Tester, Marshal Load Frame, Troxler Gyratory Compactor, Optical Levels, Total Stations, General construction and lab testing equipment. Excellent time management skills are required to ensure all assigned labs are set up and ready for instruction with the ability to cross train for other labs as required. The successful candidate must be or become a certified operator of forklifts in the 6000# range, scissors lifts (35-ft height), jib cranes and other material handling equipment within six (6) months after hire. The Lab Supervisor must be capable of performing the physical duties required for this position, which include but are not limited to: lifting items above head level, lifting up to 94 pounds of material (such as bags of cement), climbing ladders, driving a forklift or pallet jack, palletizing products and moving lab equipment. The candidate must also possess the dexterity and visual acuity required to measure, weigh, and manipulate small items and hazardous materials. The lab supervisor will oversee laboratory safety, maintain lab equipment, order lab supplies, and coordinate all laboratory activities with the faculty. The Laboratory Supervisor must also be able to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hearing protection, hard hat, gloves, aprons, protective welding gear, and applicable protective clothing.
