Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Academic Counselor provides administrative leadership for recruitment, programs, community engagement and works directly with the Director. The Counselor aligns with the mission of the Honors Program, provides academic advising to students, provides leadership and co-curricular event planning for the Honors community, collaborates with other units to ensure the retention and success of Honors students throughout their academic career.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide administrative support in the development, implementation and marketing of programs/projects.

Collect and analyze data; prepare reports; maintain program records and statistical information.

Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, departments and other units on day-to-day programmatic, operational and administrative issues.

Facilitate seminars, meetings and special projects.

Develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the program or assist with grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives of the program.

Assist in recruitment and orientation initiatives through outreach initiatives, informative events and/or attendance at college fairs (in partnership with the Office of Admissions).

Supervise and train students.

Current knowledge of general degree requirements to provide academic advisement to Honors students.

The Academic Counselor will also perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Must possess an earned Masters degree in any discipline and at least one year of administrative or other relevant experience in a college/university setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Technical skills in web page design and social media
Experience working with students in a higher education setting
Demonstrated ability to build effective and collaborative relationships
