Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
Position is responsible for reviewing the schematic design, design development and construction drawings/bid documents prepared by outside consultants for constructability and maintainability. Project Administration duties include: Tracks/establishes project schedule and budget, progress meetings, and related project progress tracking, initiates and manages designer selection process, manages CM at Risk selection process. Monitors design progress and adherence to University design and construction guidelines. Design and construction contract coordination. Prepares information for project status reports for university administration. Attends university administration project status/review meetings. Position assists department director in preparing or providing input to the development of general construction and renovation capital improvements projects.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Work may require considerable public contact to explain standards and regulations, or appearance before a regulatory/judicial body, provide consultation and technical assistance, and may require negotiation to determine the feasibility of project implementation or continuation
Work may require professional licensure or other certifications
Work performed includes exercising judgment and decision-making that directly impacts life, health, safety and/or the environment
Position requires considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of construction/civil engineering, extensive knowledge of materials, soils, foundations, construction techniques, project management, and of the codes, laws and ordinances pertaining to the construction and renovation of buildings and other facilities
Ability to design and/or review the design of outside consultants and to read and interpret all related plans and specifications
Ability to estimate costs, monitor and manage construction projects, and to technically direct others and review and evaluate their work
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Qualification for professional licensing/registration preferred but not mandatory
Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Valid N.C. Driver’s license
Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
Recruitment Range: $59,613 - $71,522
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 76
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
