Police Lieutenant


Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief of Police, directs and manages the activities of a division or divisions of the department. Rotation between Police Divisions occurs every 2-3 years and is necessary for the development of a well rounded manager with a variety of experiences and responsibilities at each division. A division of the department can be comprised of any one or more of the following units, programs, or functions: patrol, traffic, investigations, emergency preparedness, training special events, crime prevention, security, special assignments, bicycle and skateboard enforcement, field training, armory, departmental vehicles/equipment, backgrounds, grants, community service officers, volunteers, interns, and external law enforcement liaison. The lieutenant is responsible for the direct supervision of assigned units, programs, and activities and may exercise functional supervisory responsibilities for all other units, programs, and activities. The lieutenant may act for the Chief of Police and/or Assistant Chief of Police in their absence. They are responsible for all functions and tasks appropriate to the classification.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
Career Position.
May be required to stand for long periods of time in full police uniform with all safety equipment (including crowd control tactical gear). Must maintain department department standards of firearms proficiency (including pistol) and defensive tactics skills. May require physical ability to expend full amount of energy while enforcing the law or effecting an arrest.
Must have a valid California Driver's License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program
California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Supervisory certificate.
Must be able and willing to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment
Final candidate subject to background check.
