Director, Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship

Lafayette College invites applications for the position of Director of the College’s teaching center, the Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship [CITLS]. We seek a dynamic, experienced director to provide leadership and vision as Lafayette adds 40 new faculty positions over the next six to eight years as part of a growth strategy to make the College more affordable to a more diverse student body.

Position Description:

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, the Director of the Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship is responsible for working with faculty at all career stages throughout the College to develop and implement faculty development programming related to pedagogy, and to provide leadership and vision for the enhancement of teaching and learning.


  • Develop priorities for the Center; guide and support initiatives to support innovative and inclusive pedagogy
  • Promote a campus culture that values ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning
  • Facilitate collaborative initiatives with academic departments, programs, and other areas of campus such as the College Writing Program, Office of the Dean of Advising and Co-curricular Programming, Instructional Technology Services, libraries, and the Center for Inclusive STEM Studies (scheduled to open in fall 2019)
  • Establish and work with a faculty advisory board
  • Direct new faculty orientation program
  • Lead/organize workshops on pedagogical topics
  • Provide individual consultations on teaching and pedagogy, classroom visitation, faculty mentoring
  • Stay current on research on teaching and learning
  • Pursue grants to support pedagogical initiatives


  • Ph.D., with graduate work or equivalent experience relevant to faculty professional development
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Record of scholarship on teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of curricular design, learning theories, technology re: teaching
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching approaches (e.g. problem-based learning, civic engagement, team teaching)
  • Knowledge of and advocacy for diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups of faculty, students, staff
  • Experience working with faculty in creative fields and engineering
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Managerial and budget experience, grant applications and grant management
