Job Summary

This position involves semi-skilled and skilled work at the advanced apprentice level in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and their related components in accordance with the standard practices of the plumbing trade.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Cuts openings in walls for pipes; bends tubing, cuts, reams and threads pipe
•Installs, maintains, and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, washbowls, sewers vents, and others sanitary fixtures
•Performs tasks by using the standard tools, materials, codes methods, and safe practices of the plumbing trade
•Operates power driven and manually operated equipment and tools and drains, unclogs fixtures, clean sewer lines by hand or power equipment to clear stoppages
•Makes use of the appropriate type of materials applicable to the situation including black iron, cast iron, galvanized, copper, lead, glass, brass, PVC, stainless, terracotta and others
•Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

•High School diploma or equivalent
•A minimum of (2) two years experience in the plumbing trade, either as a trade helper (or equivalent) or as a participant in good standing in an acceptable formal training program
•Must possess a valid driver's license
•Knowledge of standard trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations pertaining to the trades is essential
•Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions
•Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
•Ability to follow instructions relating to work assignments that may be oral or written, and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints
•Ability to use electronic mail, web based trouble report systems, and PDA based C.M.M.S. software
•Ability to travel and be willing and able to work any shift, weekends, and holidays; to include but not limited to, availability for on-calls in responses to after-hour emergencies on all campuses
•Ability to work and communicate in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
