Position Summary: The Research Scientist will perform work within one of the facilities and laboratories of the Department of Applied Physical Sciences. Job duties include design and execution of peptide synthesis, organic synthesis, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) purification, mass spectrometry and other related laboratory duties, managing and operating the peptide synthesis facility, assisting in the development and execution of workshops and trainings for users, mentoring students, and participating in outreach activities. This position may also provide opportunities for lectures on cell biology and synthesis. This would be accomplished through a secondary faculty appointment.

Education Requirements: PhD in Organic Chemistry and relevant experience in the field of solid-phase peptide synthesis, at least one year of experience in operating and maintaining high performance liquid chromatography instrumentation, and experience in providing technical training, supervision, and mentoring.

Qualification and Experience: - Proficiency in Manual and automated peptide synthesis; Analytical and preparatory high-performance liquid chromatography; Mass Spectrometry including LCMS; Rotary Evaporation; Lyophilization; Organic synthesis - Ability to troubleshoot lab instruments, work independently and in teams, present information concisely, multi-task and set priorities to meet deadlines, work with a diverse group of people - Willingness to take on a wide variety of roles - Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
