Degree and Area of Specialization:

Baccalaureate in nursing is required.
Graduate (masters) degree in nursing or public health is required.
Doctoral degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice, PhD, or other doctoral degree) is strongly preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

* One or more years of experience in teaching or precepting at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing, and
* Three or more years of professional experiences as a registered nurse (RN) in a community health role, in school of nursing, or public health nursing.

Successful candidates will demonstrate substantial experience as a professional nurse. Individuals with specialty knowledge and/or certification in community health, public health, school health, or as nurse educators are highly encouraged to apply

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School. Experience with active learning, concept-based teaching, simulation, and inter-professional education is highly desirable.

Appointments for candidates prepared at the Masters level will be at the rank of Clinical Instructor. Appointments for candidates prepared at the doctoral level will typically be at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank. Appointments at the Clinical Associate Professor rank are possible but will require an exceptionally strong record of professional practice, teaching experience, and scholarship.

License or certificate:

RN licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin is required.

Position Summary:

Clinical faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing are responsible for undergraduate and graduate instruction and evaluation of student learning in the classroom, in simulated care environments, and through experiential learning in acute care and community health settings. Clinical faculty collaborate with colleagues in course and curriculum development, instruction, improvement, and evaluation. Clinical faculty assigned to community health experiential learning courses and activities work with preceptors in community health settings including schools, public health departments, and other community health organizations in a 10 plus county area. Work with preceptors focuses on supporting their work with students in community health experiential learning settings. Clinical faculty engage in service activities aimed at accomplishing the mission and strategic vision of the School of Nursing including committees and taskforces. Clinical faculty employed full time may also pursue scholarly activities individually or in scholarship teams that advance nursing science, education, or practice. Clinical faculty with teaching assignments that require maintenance of specialty certification may engage in clinical practice up to 8 hours per week and with the expectation of student clinical supervision during practice. Clinical faculty contribute to School of Nursing and University of Wisconsin-Madison goals for diversity and inclusive excellence.
