Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under general supervision, perform a variety of technical and administrative duties involved in the daily operation of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) Service Desk. Using exceptional customer service skills, serve as the single point of initial contact for DoIT to provide broad, IT-related support and solutions to all USC customers, based on the ITIL methodology, specifically incident management, problem management, knowledge management, change management, and service request fulfillment. Customers include USC faculty, staff, students, parents, guests, affiliates, retirees, and other internal and external customers of the University.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Systems; or equivalency

Preferred Qualifications

Previous customer service experience. Bachelor's Degree and (2) years of experience in systems administration, System Management Server (SMS) administration, and/or Active Directory (AD) administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Excellent customer service skills. Ability to provide technical support to end users over the telephone, through chat and/or email and through other service management tools. Working knowledge of common operating systems and software and troubleshooting methods. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Ability to use active listening skills to establish trust and build rapport with the public, courteously and effectively assist with the issues presented, and work as an effective team member. Ability to accurately analyze a customer request, work within established guidelines, and maintain accurate documentation. Previous customer service experience providing technical support is strongly desired.
