Specialist Series - James Laboratory

Recruitment Period Open March 2nd, 2018 through June 30th, 2018 Description

The Specialist is actively engaged in research, and expected to make scientific, scholarly, and substantive intellectual contributions to active contracts and research projects underway in the James Laboratory. The Specialist will have specialized advanced doctorial education or training in genetic control approaches to prevent pathogen transmission by mosquito vectors. This includes theoretical and practical knowledge of mosquito molecular biology, transgenesis technologies based on transposable elements and CRISPR/Cas9 biology, and insect husbandry of major vector species, including Anopheles gambiae, An. stephensi, Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus. Rudimentary knowledge of the model insect, Drosophila melanogaster, is desired. The Specialist will strive to attain and maintain stature in the professional and scientific community. The Specialists will contribute specialized knowledge and expertise in the planning and execution of research projects as needed. The Specialist will be involved in the training and mentorship of junior-level researchers and laboratory staff. The specialist will collaborate with the principal investigator and other laboratory researchers and staff in maintaining laboratory safety standards and ethics.

The Specialist will be assessed on professional competence and activity, University and public service, and the value and impact of their contributions to their area of research and their advancement of knowledge in the discipline as judged by other academics and scientists through a process of peer review.
