Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

This position reports directly to the Fellowship Training Program Director in the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and is responsible for carrying out basic and translational research in the area of immune-mediated mechanisms of bile duct injury.

This position is also responsible for the oversight of work performed by research assistants and education of basic molecular biology and immunology theory and techniques to research assistants, students, fellows in training.

Areas of Responsibility / Scope of Research

  • The position entails carrying out basic and translational research in the area of immune-mediated mechanisms of bile duct injury. A specific focus on mechanisms of innate immune system activation and dysregulation is preferred.
  • Basic and translational research project in the lab including:
    • Standard and advanced immunological assays
    • Standard molecular biology techniques
    • Cell culture
    • Animal work
    • Human specimen (blood, tissue) analysis
    • Participation in preparation of manuscripts, grants and presentations

Minimum Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed a PhD at an accredited program.
  • Be proficient in various techniques of molecular biology, immunology, general cell culture work, and animal work.
  • Have a strong background in immunology and principles of inflammation
  • Comfortable with independent/self-directed study

Desired or preferred qualifications

  • A specific focus on mechanisms of innate immune system activation and dysregulation
  • Strong background in the field of immunology
  • A background in animal models of inflammation/autoimmunity
