Vice President for Student Affairs
Pitzer College seeks an experienced and strategic student affairs leader to serve as its next Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). Reporting to the President and serving as a critical member of his senior leadership team, the VPSA has the opportunity to shape the future of student affairs as the College embarks on its next strategic planning process. The VPSA will be an inspirational leader who can think creatively and collaboratively about how to improve the Pitzer student experience, and who can mobilize and empower their team in the process.
The College is rooted in a foundation of social responsibility, environmental sustainability, world-class teaching, and is driven by a distinguished faculty with a deep commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research. Pitzer is at a defining moment, and the VPSA plays a vital role in helping the college navigate creatively in an era of dynamic change, keeping faith with Pitzer's mission to produce civic-minded and socially responsible leaders in all walks of life.
Established in 1963, Pitzer College was the fifth undergraduate college to join The Claremont Colleges consortium. Though it is the youngest of the undergraduate colleges in the consortium, Pitzer has enjoyed one of the steepest trajectories of success, across multiple dimensions. The College was founded in the liberal arts tradition, and emphasizes community engagement at every level, from local participation in the College's shared governance, to its nationally leading position in the Fulbright Fellows program.
The VPSA will join Pitzer at an important moment of transition in the College's history as the President continues to build out his team, and will be expected to help articulate a compelling and coherent vision for student affairs at the College. A successful VPSA must have a deep and sophisticated understanding of the challenges students face today, particularly in the greater socio-political context. The campus is deeply committed to social justice, and the next VPSA must embrace this spirit while simultaneously possessing the political skills to navigate diverse viewpoints in inclusive and productive ways.
