Assistant/Associate Professor or Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor of Veterinary Curriculum and Education; Coordinator of Curricular and Student Assessment

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois is seeking a Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor or Non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor to oversee the College of Veterinary Medicine's comprehensive and periodic reviews of the veterinary curriculum.

January 2, 2018 or later

Anticipated Responsibilities/Time Assignments:

Professional Practice - 40%

• Assist the College Educational Policy committee in conducting periodic comprehensive review of the veterinary curriculum and developing evidence-based, outcomes-based methods for curricular reform.

  • Assist college faculty and administrators in instituting curricular improvements based on current literature, desired learning outcomes, and assessment outcomes, including activities such as: adopting student-centered learning strategies, identifying measurable learning outcomes, mapping the curriculum, and promoting the utilization of critical thinking in the curriculum.

• Assist faculty with development, psychometric analysis, and revision of student and curricular assessments, such as individual course examinations, practical examinations, Milestone Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and Milestone Written Examinations.
  • Oversee administration of indirect measures of curricular and student outcomes, including student surveys and course evaluations, as well as surveys of faculty, alumni, recent employers, and other groups as appropriate.

• Gather and document evidence of student learning in courses and on rotations and externships; document attainment of clinical competencies in E*Value or by other means.

Institutional service - 10%

• Serve in an ex officio capacity on the College Educational Policy Committee and, when invited, the departmental courses and curriculum committees.

• Serve on other departmental, college, or university committees as determined in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and Department Heads.

Educational research - 25-35%

• Engage in educational research independently or in collaboration with others. Conduct activities such as submission of grants to federal agencies or private foundations, publication of refereed papers related to academic assessment, curriculum enhancement, or other relevant areas, and presentation of educational research findings at national or international meetings.

Teaching - 15-25%

• Assist faculty with the development and implementation of novel learning tools and instructional methods, such as computerized case-based clinical simulations, flipped classroom, development of teaching tools for optimal learning impact, etc.

• Provide information to faculty to improve teaching and assessment, through activities such as personal consultation and departmental and college seminars and workshops.

This position will be housed in Academic and Student Affairs with a 50% academic appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. Annual reviews will be performed by the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and the Head of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. Adjustments to assigned duties may be made during annual performance reviews.

Minimal qualifications:

Ph.D. or Ed D. in relevant field.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Appointment status:

Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor: this is a regular, full-time (100%) faculty position. (12-month, tenure track)

Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor: this is a regular, full-time(100%) specialized-faculty position (12-month, non-tenure track).

At the conclusion of the search.
