Security Officers are provided an employment incentive which consists of a base pay increase of $1,500 after 12 months and 24 months respectively, resulting in a minimum annual salary of $30,000 after 2 years (provided satisfactory performance and employee remains in good standing). Additional pay increases that may also be applied are subject to the University Performance Merit program or General Assembly awards.
University Security Officers are integral to university operations, performing regular and critical patrol at the UVA Medical Center or University grounds areas, identifying and resolving appropriate safety and security issues. Security Officers work collaboratively with the proper law enforcement agency by reporting suspicious or criminal activities and activities that require additional or authorized personnel, as well as supporting those efforts, as needed.
Successful candidates must be attentive, able to isolate problems and follow established protocols, possess above-average communication skills, respond appropriately in the conduct of duty, willing to adapt to changing conditions/situations and engage with a diverse populace in a positive and ethical manner. In addition, candidates must possess an active Driver's License with a positive driving record, meet the physical requirements of the position, have an acceptable background history and pass a drug test.
