The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the University of Iowa invites applications for a fiscal year tenure-track faculty position as the E.F. Lindquist Chair at the rank of professor in Measurement and Statistics.  The position will start July 2018, or negotiable start date.


Named in honor of E.F. Lindquist, a pioneering scholar and researcher and founder of Iowa Testing Programs, we seek an individual with outstanding applied or theoretical research in the field of testing and measurement.  We seek an individual with broad interests in the field and evidence of significant professional accomplishment that has contributed to the improved use of testing and measurement techniques.

The successful applicant will be a part of the rich history of Educational Measurement and Statistics program in the College of Education at the University of Iowa.  The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an ongoing program of research and development in educational measurement and related areas; design and teach graduate courses in educational measurement and statistics, and advise MA and PhD students.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure external funding, participate in the activities of professional organizations, and be involved with state and national activities that support the practice of educational measurement.

Educational Requirement

Earned doctorate with specialization in educational measurement and applied statistics

Required Qualifications

(1) Significant evidence of scholarly productivity; (2) significant evidence of applied or theoretical contributions to the design, development, scaling, standardization and/or implementation of large-scale achievement tests in education.

Desirable Qualifications

(1) evidence of teaching effectiveness; (2) evidence of successfully securing external funds for research, training, and program development; (3) experience working collaboratively and with diverse populations, including practitioners and researchers from theoretically, methodologically, and substantively diverse backgrounds relevant to the practice of educational measurement.

About the Program

The graduate programs in Educational Measurement and Statistics at The University of Iowa prepare students for careers in educational measurement, evaluation, research, and statistical/quantitative analysis.  In addition to academic positions at universities, our graduates are employed in other educational settings (e.g., large school systems, college and university institutional research); government (e.g., state departments of education, state and federal agencies); research and consulting (e.g., research institutes and centers); and testing organizations (e.g., educational/psychological test publishing, professional certification and licensure, college and professional school admissions). Graduates of our programs understand the theories, methods, professional ethics, and applications associated with quantitative research methodology in the social science context. They are qualified to teach at the college/university level, analyze and interpret quantitative data, independently conduct research, translate sophisticated research findings and communicate them to various audiences, design and validate assessments, and apply complex quantitative information in making policy decisions.
