Position Information  

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Special Working Conditions:

The incumbent is required to maintain contact with their campus outside of their normal working hours on a regular basis. Remote contact shall include telephone, cell phone, wireless data access device, remote monitoring of any hardware or software device, and/or electronic mail notification regarding the status of a campus system.

Department Marketing Statement  

Department: Reprographics - University Print Services

The Division of Information Technology is responsible for providing leadership and support in information technology for the entire CSU Dominguez Hills community. The Division promotes IT solutions that improve the teaching, learning, research, and administrative environment of the University. The Vice President / CIO provides overall management of the Division of IT.  The Division of Information Technology is comprised of eight operational units: Service & Financial Mgmt, User Services, Academic Technology, Infrastructure & Production Services, Information Security, Development & Digital Convergence, Innovation Incubator, and Operational Effectiveness, Planning, & Analytics.  

Major Duties  

Under the general direction of the Interim Director, Infrastructure & Production Services, in the Division of Information Technology, the Digital Print Services Technical Consultant provides lead work direction to staff and student assistants of the University Print Services (UPS) and Toro Copy Center (TCC) units and is the department technical liaison.  Responsible for pre-flight tasks, coordinates and communicates tasks and projects to UPS and TCC teams, post-flight validation tasks, and reporting task and project statuses to IT management. Coordinates Digital Print Services Internship Program. Evaluates campus needs for digital printing and identifies appropriate print solutions.  Determines print service costs based on stock prices, labor costs, etc. and communicates them to IT management for approval. Maintains, upgrades (as approved), and trains UPS and TCC teams on all shop software and hardware technology and equipment. Surveys and tracks UPS and TCC assets. Assists management with developing, communicating, and implementing Universitys policies and procedures regarding UPS and TCC.  


Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education:  Bachelors Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Information Design, Computer Information Systems, Digital Printing Technology, Print Management, or related field.

Required Experience:  Minimum of 5 years of full-time digital print operational lead experience operating high volume digital equipment in a production setting while coordinating staff and work flow. Extensive experience in digital printing and finishing procedures and the ability to price job requests on a computerized software system.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience operating a Konica Minolta Bizhub Press C1070 Printer. Staff employment in a diverse higher education environment. Experience in graphics design and design software.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of the specialized principles and theories.
- Thorough knowledge of the operation, adjustment and routine maintenance of mechanical, digital and computerized equipment and systems.
- Thorough knowledge of lithography and reprographics systems and operations.
- Knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic software and the ability to manipulate and translate media, as well as process electronic files using pre-press software.

- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Effective organizational skills to coordinate work within a specified area within reprographics and to provide lead work direction to staff, student interns, and student assistants.
- Possess specialized skills reprographics operations, processes and systems.

Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools,vehicles or office equipment:
Campus equipment includes, but is not limited to, a Konica Minolta Bizhub Press C1070 Printer, Ricoh Pro 8120s, Xante Ilumina, HP Designjet L25500, binding machines, folding machinery, power cutters, paper drills, general computer systems and operations, receiving online artwork and print jobs, electric stapler, calculator, color and black and white copier and systems, shrink wrap machines, and laminators.  


50% - Technical Operational Functions:
Evaluate campus needs for digital printing and identify appropriate print solutions. Provide technical advice in the evaluation, purchase, upgrades and maintenance of software and hardware technology and equipment.  Evaluate equipment and research for alternatives to meet campus needs. Report task and project statuses to IT management. Determine and communicate print services costs based on stock prices, labor costs, etc. to IT management for approval.  Prepare requests for proposals, cost estimates, and justifications. Train UPS and TCC teams on all shop software and hardware technology and equipment.  Review and track maintenance contracts. Survey and track UPS and TCC assets. Assist management with developing, communicating, and implementing University┬┐s policies and procedures regarding UPS and TCC.

35% - Digital Print Services Consultant:
Communicate with key customers and market the availability of services provided to the University.  Create and develop marketing materials to demonstrate capabilities of UPS and TCC.  Ensure satisfaction, including time and cost effective procedures or other problem solving situations. Troubleshoot and resolve digital order issues that may arise.  Develop strategic plan with IT management to explore new opportunities and maximize departmental services.  Prepare usage reports to management and make recommendations to increase utilization of UPS. Determine and procure print supplies as needed and budget allows.  Provide training and communication materials to campus users to maximize utilization of UPS.

Pre-flight Confirm digital files required for the printing process are all present, valid, technically formatted, and of the desired file type (jpeg, gif, pdf, etc). Prepare materials for production including graphics manipulation, limited graphic design work, desktop publishing, and imposing files, as needed.

Post-flight Validate that the job has been completed as per the customers order/request. Coordinate the delivery or informing of the customer that the job is ready for pickup.

10% - Maintain active membership in ACUP (Association of College and University Printers). Keep abreast of digital print technological changes and advances within the industry. Perform clerical duties related to the department, including attending to email and calender events daily. Coordinate Digital Print Services Internship Program. Attend department and division meetings as scheduled.
