Director of Residence Life
Housing and Residence Life at UNC Charlotte invites candidates to apply for the Director of Residence Life. There has never been a more exciting time to become a Forty Niner. Although we are the youngest of the 16 schools in the UNC system, as of this fall, we have the third largest enrollment of all UNC campuses. Located on the north side of the rapidly growing and 17th largest city in the country, Charlotte, NC, our campus serves over 29,000 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.
Residentially, we are home to 17 residence halls, housing approximately 6,100 students in some of the most groundbreaking facilities in the country with an emphasis on co-curricular learning and academic success. Traditional tower residence halls, suites, and apartments serve to provide options and mobility for students choosing to live on campus. Learning communities, Greek Village, honors and academic housing and special housing in cooperation with International Studies are a few of the options available and indicative of the wide range of choices to be made by Forty Niners.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Residence Life (DRL) serves as a senior member of the Housing and Residence Life team and reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The DRL is responsible for a $2 million residence life budget, leadership and supervision of 25 professional staff including Associate and Assistant Directors and overnight Security Guards; serves as a member of department’s senior and central management teams; developing and maintaining a focused relationship with campus dining partners; liaison with academic partners; direction of residence education program; budget supervision and development within residence life units; training and development of residence life staff; managing critical incidents; other projects as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor.
Responsible for the overall design, implementation, coordination and assessment of the Residence Education and Program Development functions of the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Assessing, monitoring and setting expectations for the overall environment with residence halls from perspectives that include behavioral, social and academic; development and implementing strategies for addressing concerns that arise regarding the environment in the halls; developing programs that will enhance the individual learning and personal development of residential students; monitoring current trends in housing, residence life and student affairs for best practice.
Masters Degree (preferably in higher education, counseling and/or student personnel, or related field). 7-10 years of progressive professional (post-masters) experience in campus housing, student affairs or a related field.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Doctorate in higher education, student personnel or related field. 7-10 years of progressive professional post-masters experience in campus housing, student affairs or a related field.
