Temple University’s College of Public Health is devoted to an innovative educational and research environment that brings an interprofessional and transdisciplinary perspective on health, wellness and social welfare. The Department of Health Services Administration and Policy seeks an innovative and experienced faculty member for our nationally recognized and Commission on Accreditation for Health Information and Informatics Management (CAHIIM) accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Information and Health Informatics Management. We are seeking someone with teaching and professional experience in database management and data analytics to support our growing academic programs and research agenda. Responsibilities will include teaching as well as assisting and collaborating with faculty researchers and students working with large datasets.

Qualifications. Candidates should possess a skill set in database management (SQL, Oracle of MySQL) and data analytics, and a strong secondary focus on health informatics. Health information technology and/or health information management with a focus on population health management is also desirable. Eligible candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; a doctoral degree in a closely related field with a research interest in health outcomes, health informatics / health data analytics is preferred.

Candidates with research or practice experience in the creation and query of databases, experience with health information exchange interfaces and/or information security backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience at the university level and relevant experience in quantitative data analytic approaches and SQL languages.  Experience with online teaching is desirable. Candidates with histories of grant funding are welcomed and work effort can be assigned to research.

Academic rank depends on degree and previous academic and professional experience.

The Department. Established in 2015, the Department is comprised of academic programs in health policy and management and health information and informatics management. There are 13 faculty engaged in teaching, research, and entrepreneurial activities with more than 200 students. Academic programs include a BS in Health Information Management, an MPH in Health Policy and Management with concentrations in Health Policy and Healthcare Leadership; an MS and Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics; and a PhD in Health Policy. All academic programs are fully accredited. The research and policy emphases are in the areas of patient experience/quality of care, and population health management, healthcare costs and financing; health outcomes and disparities; access to care and social determinants of health; and impact of health information technologies.

The College. A CEPH-accredited school of public health, the College of Public Health is a constellation of 9 academic units of public health, health profession and social work disciplines, enrolling 4,600 students in 8 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs. The College has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in programs, research profile, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Research focuses on population health management, social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other major funders. Collaborations include Fox Chase Cancer Center, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, Temple’s and other health systems, community health centers, and the Department of Public Health.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry.
