The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track instructional position to teach two courses in contemporary Arabic literature in the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters and provide service to the department. The anticipated start date is August 25, 2018. Field of specialization in contemporary Arabic literature with a special emphasis on poetry, prose, comparative and/or gender studies, subfield of specialization open. Evidence of excellent teaching and commitment to interdisciplinary work are required. The successful candidate must have native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English. The ability to teach introductory and specialized Arabic literature courses both in Arabic and in English is a requirement.
Candidates who hold an M.A in Arabic Literature or a related field, by the time of appointment, will be considered for the rank of Lecturer.
Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Arabic Literature or a related field, by the time of appointment, will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, General Faculty.
