Degree and Area of Specialization:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field is required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
A minimum of 7 years of management experience, including 4 years in a supervisory capacity, or satisfactory equivalent combination of higher education/experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills and the ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Experience leading a customer focused service organization, supervising personnel having advanced professional experience and cross-functional collaborative experiences leading towards continuous process and practice improvements.
Experience in using software technology solutions to ensure maintenance of a financial internal control environment, as well as efficiency and effectiveness of services.
Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, financial internal controls and complex financial data analysis.
Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
Experience in the management of student financial services.
Knowledge of student financial accounting/record systems, particularly Oracle (PeopleSoft) Student Information Systems
and related payment systems, for example CASHnet, OnPlanU, etc..
License or certificate:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) also desirable.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor & Controller at the Division of Business Services http://
www.bussvc.wisc.edu), the Bursar provides leadership and overall management, planning and supervision to UW-Madison's
Bursar's Office, which is comprised of approximately 18 full-time employees and 10-12 student employees.
The Bursar's Office is responsible for the collection of nearly $650 million annually of student tuition and fee revenue,
managing student tuition accounts, and managing campus-based student loan processing. The Bursar ensures accurate
invoicing for academic programs, proper application of charges and credits to student accounts, billing and collection of
student tuition and fees, disbursement of financial aid, customer service, compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
The Bursar also represents UW-Madison in a variety of on- and off-campus settings (e.g. NACUBO, B1G 10 Bursars and
AAU Bursars) and should serve as a national leader in post-secondary bursar strategies and operations.
