Minimum Education/Experience: Graduation from a physician assistant program approved by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or licensed as a registered nurse by the Board of Nursing and graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Subcommittee, and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Job Duties: This position will manage the care of patients at Cardiovascular Outreach clinical sites, including those undergoing exercise or pharmacological stress testing. The physician extender will be a consistent monitor and resource person with daily responsibilities for supervising and monitoring patients at these outpatient facilities. The person should be able to communicate needed information to the proper physician, nurse or other allied health professional by means of physical examinations, review of EKG and laboratory data, review of other pertinent health records, review of radiological date and knowledge of cardiovascular medications. CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION - NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT. The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
