Director of External Funding & Grant Development

Job description

Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, this position will work to fulfill the University’s potential as a force for change by marshalling institutional resources, cultivating public and private funders and individuals, and strategically seizing opportunities for expansion and revenue growth that align with the Strategic Plan, both nationally and with a focus on the Midwest region.

- Designs, writes and submits proposals soliciting funds from public, private and individual donors in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
-Works with the University leadership and Deans to identify and recommend emergent innovations that align with public policy and the university’s strategic plan. As a result, creates, plans and implements short and long-term strategies, leveraging funding from public/private entities (i.e. foundations, corporations and individuals).
-Serves as point person/liaison for alumni development activities including initial contacts/screening and coordinating group activities.
-Collaborates and identifies potential projects and services. Identifies resource-streams and solicits funding in order to underwrite work.
-Oversees follow-up and reporting on all grants, and ensures system moves smoothly.

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.
5-7 years related experience working in an education and/or non-profit setting.

Strong verbal and written communication skills – prepares for and/or conducts informal meetings or discussions, documents procedures, prepares necessary forms and correspondence, etc

Strong interpersonal skills – both within the department and with other departments

Effective and proven project management and team building skills
