Lecturer of History
The Department of History at Smith College invites applications for a one-year, full time, benefits eligible Lecturer position in the history of the United States with a transnational focus, to begin July 1, 2018. The lecturer will teach five courses, including two surveys: “Citizenship in the United States, 1776-1861” and “United States since 1877”. The other three courses will be decided in consultation with the department. Candidates with demonstrated teaching experience who can offer courses on im/migration, empire, race, class, and/or women and gender are especially encouraged to apply, as are applicants from groups underrepresented in History. A commitment to excellence in teaching is required and a Ph.D. in History or a relevant field is expected by time of appointment.
Located in Northampton, MA, Smith College is the largest women’s college in the country and is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research across the liberal arts. A faculty of outstanding scholars interact with students in small classes, as advisors, and through student-faculty research projects. The College is a member of the Five College Consortium with Amherst, Hampshire and Mt. Holyoke Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
