The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University seek a dynamic, experienced enrollment professional for the position of Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid.  Through a partnership of two of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges, the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John’s University (SJU) offer to students the opportunities and choices of a larger university and the individual attention and community of a premier small college experience.  The successful candidate will embrace the unique qualities of each institution and recruit top students who will thrive from the benefits both institutions offer.

The Catholic character of CSB/SJU is shaped by the Benedictine communities that founded the colleges and continues to enliven the academic, spiritual and social life of these institutions. The Position

Serving on the senior leadership teams of both institutions and reporting directly to College of Saint Benedict President Mary Dana Hinton and Saint John’s University President Michael Hemesath, the Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid will serve as an executive leader and the chief enrollment officer.  The Vice President will directly manage the work of eight senior professionals, strategically leading institutional efforts in domestic and international admission and financial aid.  The Vice President will oversee 40 staff who serve on the admission and financial aid team. Serving both institutions, the Vice President will create and implement a strategic plan designed to meet the enrollment, discounting and net tuition revenue goals and objectives of each institution.    

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced professional guided by a comprehensive knowledge of demographics, data analytics and market trends. Adept skills in data analytics will be required to pursue and enroll students who will thrive and persist at the institutions. The Vice President will develop strategies to optimize and leverage financial aid to enroll students who will excel at CSB/SJU.  The Vice President will maintain institutional financial strength in net tuition revenue and guide the process of financial aid packaging and predictive enrollment modeling.  The ideal candidate must possess the ability to identify and assess emerging demographic trends and to adapt to changing market conditions.

The Vice President will effectively manage an enrollment team and culture across both campuses, engaging in transparent and open dialog that will involve key stakeholders in the recruitment and enrollment process.  Building upon the established trust of faculty, staff, and students, as well as strong and extremely loyal CSB/SJU alumni groups, the Vice President will collaborate creatively in enrollment and institutional issues with extraordinary interpersonal skill to facilitate partnerships at both institutions.  The Vice President will collaborate with colleagues serving on both the CSB and SJU Cabinets to assure institutional stability and prosperity.  

Leading and managing an established staff possessing remarkable longevity, the Vice President must be a seasoned and experienced leader with the ability to formulate, mentor and maintain a strong and cohesive team.  The Vice President will effectively manage, train, and lead the admission and financial aid team, housed on both campuses, to build a staff skilled in meeting their respective and unified goals. The Vice President also will provide consistent messaging and high-level customer care to students and families.   The Vice President will be respectful and inclusive, offering a high level of professional development as well as expecting a high level of accountability.

Founded in 1857 by the Monks of the Order of Saint Benedict, Saint John’s inspires undergraduate men to new heights of intellectual, spiritual, physical and social development that is grounded in the Catholic and Benedictine tradition. SJU provides its students a powerful and lasting experience of community, providing an experience that encourages men to reach their full potential.  Through a four-year residential program, nearly all of SJU’s 1,700 students live on campus, enjoying a vibrant atmosphere for personal growth and discovery.  The Faculty Resident Program is a distinctive part of campus life whereby Benedictine monks and lay administrators live in the residence halls and serve as adult mentors. The program has been cited by external assessment teams as one of the major strengths of the university.

Two Institutions, Together

The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John's University (SJU) each are nationally recognized liberal arts colleges. Together, CSB and SJU have formed a one-of-a-kind partnership of two top-ranked liberal arts institutions. The two college communities have been closely connected since their beginnings, and the formal partnership began over 50 years ago.

Students at CSB/SJU have full access to the campuses, courses, faculty, facilities, and programs of two colleges. Students take classes on both campuses, eat on both campuses, attend events on both campuses, study on both campuses, and use the athletic facilities on both campuses.  CSB/SJU offers more than 60 areas of study and 35 major programs of study leading to the baccalaureate degree.  Study abroad, internship and research opportunities abound for students to enhance their educational experience.  Likewise, joint clubs and organizations are available for all students, with a separate though coordinated student senate for each institution.

Located six miles apart on a total of over 3,000 acres, the campuses are known for their natural beauty that includes wetlands, several lakes, an oak savanna, a restored prairie, and hiking trails that wind through an extensive pine and hardwood forest.  In addition to its recreational value, the landscape inspires spiritual and artistic reflection and fosters the Benedictine traditions of land stewardship, education, and environmental respect.  CSB “Bennies” and SJU “Johnnies” travel between the two campuses on the LINK bus. CSB and SJU offer separate athletic programs participating in NCAA Division III athletics.  CSB fields eleven teams and seven competitive club sports, while SJU hosts twelve teams and seven club sports.  Both CSB and SJU compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, one of the top Division III conferences in the nation. Both colleges have completed major athletic facilities projects. SJU's new facilities include a soccer field, baseball stadium, tennis courts, indoor golf simulation center, and a seasonally-domed multipurpose field. CSB built two softball fields, two soccer fields and intramural fields. A new athletic center houses concession stands, state-of-the-art locker and training rooms, and a press box.

Students:

The colleges enroll a talented and diverse student body.  The typical new student placed among the top 20% of all ACT test-takers nationally.  Their composite high school grade point average in fall 2017 totaled 3.6, and more than one-quarter earned a 3.9 grade average or higher.  New students typically describe themselves as friendly, fun, and driven.  In fall 2017, undergraduate students came from 39 states and 21 foreign countries.  International students make up nearly four percent of the student body.  American students of color represent 17% of all CSB and SJU students.  More than one in five students plays on an intercollegiate athletics team.

Location: 

Seven miles from St. Cloud, Minnesota, the College of Saint Benedict is a beautiful welcoming campus located on the edge of the city of St. Joseph, a town of 7,000.  Saint John’s University is located in the midst of woodlands, prairies and lakes in Collegeville - four miles to the west. 

St. Cloud, MN offers natural attractions, sporting events, arts, entertainment, shopping and more.  The regional urban area supports an array of medical, educational, and park and recreation organizations and facilities.  The population of St. Cloud and the surrounding metropolitan area, including St. Joseph, approximates 250,000, while the city of St. Cloud is around 67,000.
