Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University's (GW) Medical Services of the Colonial Health Center (CHC) goal is to provide high quality medical care to all GW students, provide easy access to care to enable students to return to classes as quickly as possible. Reporting to the Lead Psychiatrist, the University Psychiatrist will provide clinical assessment and evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients for short term and episodic care. The position includes psychiatric medication management, urgent psychiatric consultations and crisis intervention. The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
- Provides crisis intervention to the student population.
- Provides General psychiatric evaluations and assessments including short-term treatment, psychotherapy, medication management and referrals.
- Coordinates services with primary care clinicians, counselors, and care managers within the Colonial Health Center team, Disability Support Service, and Dean of Students office.
- Maintains professional working relationships with the medical and counseling team and university administrators.
The position is housed in a clinical environment and is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree (MD, DO) and a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia, prior to start date, and board eligibility/board certification in relevant specialty. Finalists must pass credentials verification and National Practitioner Data Bank query.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with and understanding the needs of the college-aged population.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
