About the Theatre and Dance Program

Theatre and Dance is a vibrant program with 10 full-time faculty and 150 majors and minors. We are part of the newly formed Corcoran School of the Arts at GWU, which values both artistic excellence and the unique power of the arts to catalyze collaborative problem solving in communities. We offer a Bachelor of Arts degree with emphases in acting/directing, production design/technical theatre, and dance.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include teaching courses in theater practice and history, directing a production annually, and developing new courses in the candidate's special interest area. Position begins as early as August 2018.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a primary focus in either performance history or performance practices (directing and acting). In addition, they must have an expertise in any non-Western theatrical tradition or expertise in physical performance skills, voice, and/or devised performance.
Applicants must have an MFA in Directing / Acting or a PhD in Theater or Performance Studies by the time of application; a minimum of five years of university teaching experience; and demonstrated work experience as a director or actor in the professional theater.

Finalists will be invited to make an on-campus presentation to the full faculty of the Corcoran, after which point a committee recommendation will be shared and a vote taken. The results shall be sent to the Director for appointment.
